Dennis Nilsen’s 1983 Signed Dictionary With Notes
This is Dennis Nilsen’s paperback dictionary, sent in to him by his work colleagues six weeks after his arrest. At the time, he was on remand at HMP Brixton. This dictionary was his only reference during the time he filled the 50 prison excercise books for Brian Masters’ book, Killing for Company, and also his own original autobiographical documents. It was an extremely important and well-used book by him as is shown by the condition. He has annotated the page opposite the inside front cover on two different occasions: “This book was gifted to me by friends in the Civil Service (Manpower Services Commission) on 30th March 1983 Received with thanks Des Nilsen in H.M.P. Brixton” Then in 12 years later he added underneath: “Finally fell apart in March 1995 DN” This dictionary was handed out of prison in 1996.
